Whether you agree or disagree, some journalists in Pakistan are facing grave risks as a result of growing intolerance for critical journalism and continuous attacks on journalists by government agents.
Journalist kidnappings, physical assaults, and torture have become all too regular. Yesterday, well-known anchor Iqrar-ul-Hasan was the subject of a horrific attack launched by the Intelligence Bureau (IB), and today, Mohsin Jamil Baig was detained from his residence by the Federal Investigation Agency.
Mohsin Jamil Baig is a man from Pakistan.
Mohsin Jamil Baig is a renowned Pakistani journalist who spoke out against Prime Minister Imran Khan on Samaa TV a few days ago.
He was arrested for what reason?
The FIA searched the journalist’s residence in Islamabad in the afternoon, and he was subsequently detained after reportedly shooting at and roughhousing raiding team members.
Instead of battling in court, he came out with a pistol and aimed it at the video producer, according to the FIA’s Cybercrime branch.
The statement of the FIA
According to a news statement released by the investigating agency, the FIA’s Cyber Crime Circle stormed Baig’s residence after obtaining a search and seizure warrant from the competent court.
“During the raid, Mohsin Baig and his son and slaves directly shot at the FIA team and took two officers hostage,” according to the press announcement. According to the FIA, a FIR was filed against Baig in Lahore by Murad Saeed under Sections 20 (offences against the dignity of a natural person), 21-D (offences against the modesty of a natural person and minor), and 24 (cyber stalking) of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016, read with Sections 500 (defaming army officers) and 555 (statement conducing to public mischief) of the Pakistan Penal Code
the other side of the tale
Baig’s son claimed that plainclothes officers arrived at the residence earlier today and detained his father. Before detaining Mohsin Baig, the FIA’s senior wing stormed his residence, prompting the senior journalist and his colleagues to seek an arrest warrant, which the FIA team failed to produce.
Discussion on social media
Many people on social media reacted differently to his detention.
Let’s have a look:
Renowned journalist Hamid Mir posted photos of Baig’s residence in Islamabad in the morning, as police and FIA officers surrounded it, saying that Baig’s “arrest is a symbol of weakness, not strength, of @ImranKhanPTI.”
Police commandos are standing outside the house of journalist Mohsin Baig in Islamabad. He was arrested this morning, now police want to enter in his house for search. Lady police is also there. Son of Mohsin Baig is injured and police want to arrest him for resisting against FIA.
What a petty, small man Imran Khan has turned out to be. Can't even tolerate a little bit of criticism. This what #MohsinBaig had said in a recent interview. Today, he had him arrested. Dissent is a crime in #Pakistan pic.twitter.com/Nt06MmIEF9

We condemn the fascism of Imran Khan’s government!! The arrest of #MohsinBaig by #FIA is unacceptable & we demand his immediate release. #PTIGovernment & #PMIK are using their blatant authority to victimise & hush all dissenting voices. @pressfreedom @ICFJ #PUFJ
